Space Settlement Advocacy - Contacting Congress & Your Local Media Do you want to see space settlement happen, but aren't sure how you can help? A powerful first step is contacting your Congressmen and local media by letter, email, or phone and expressing your support. Your voice is more powerful than you might think. Members of Congress and the media know each person who contacts them may represent hundreds of others who never choose to speak out. The following web stickers can be used to contact your members of Congress as well as your local media. Instructions for each appear below. In addition to writing or emailing Congress, you can also give your legislators a quick call. To reach them, call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121.
Write to Congress web sticker From the Write to Congress web sticker above, access the congress.org website by typing your ZIP code in the Enter Your ZIP Code box and then clicking the GO button. Your own Congressmen will be listed on the congress.org page, with links you can use to write them an email or create a hard copy letter to mail. Click the "Compose Your Own Message" link to start a new email to send or a letter that you can print out. Letters automatically have the correct mailing address at the top. There is even a link you can use to send an email to the President. Contact the Media web sticker Click the Contact the Media web sticker above to access the media search page on congress.org. On that page, you can search for specific media (newspapers, television, and so on) by ZIP code, by the name of an individual in that organization, or by state. After completing the search, select which media organization(s) to contact and compose an email to send or a letter to print out. As with the Congressional letters, media letters automatically have the correct mailing address at the top. The Space Settlement Institute has identified land claims recognition in space (LCR-Space) as the protocol most likely to make space settlement a reality. Do you think Congress should form a committee to investigate the merits of LCR-Space legislation? Then let your Senators and Congressman know. Inform your local newspapers and television stations as well, so they can help bring the issue into the spotlight. | |||||
